Mirabel groans, “Toño...it's the middle of the night.” “I'm too nervous to sleep...” Mirabel sighs and smiles, “Would you like to hear a story?” “¡Sí, por favor!” “Have I told you how Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín met?” Mirabel asks. Antonio shakes his head. “It all started one day in June… My father was having his 17th birthday. There would be festivities, a tres leches cake, and even a piñata. His amigos wave from outside." “¡Hola, José! ¡Hola, Quique!” Agustín greets his best amigos “What’s up?” José tells Agustín about a challenge to climb the Encanto mountains. Quique interrupts, “That's a terrible idea! If we climb them, who knows what could happen?” José scoffs, “Please. The friends race down the mountain, being careful of the terrain, making it back to town safely with only a few stings. Quique looks at Agustín, “¡Ay! Agustín you got stung bad! Let's tell your mom.” “What?! ¡No! She can't see me like this, I'd get in so much trouble,” Agustín says, “there has to be another way.” Walking home, Agustín sees a beautiful woman, who he'd never noticed before. He sees her giving sick or injured men and women food. And what happens next shocks him. Once the person eats the lady’s food, they're immediately healed! Agustín sees this as an opportunity to get out of trouble, and walks over. “¡Buenos días, señor! You look like you could use some help with those bee stings. Take this arepa.” Agustín watches as he is healed, marveling at how impressive she is, “¡Gracias! You are very- I mean, I was wondering, how you did that?” She giggles, “I'm Julieta. My Mamá was blessed so that all her children get a gift of magic. Mine is healing with food.” “Wow. You’re muy bonita! I mean... uh- talented! You're talented... and pretty. *blushes* I should get going, thanks again.” Agustín starts to walk away. “Wait!” Julieta stops him, “Do you think we could get together some time?” “I'd love to! Actually, today is my birthday. Would you like to come to my party?” Julieta agrees to attend. Through the years, Agustín and Julieta become close. The townsfolk find them a perfect couple, with Julieta healing Agustín when he gets hurt (which is often) and Agustín there to make her laugh. “...The End. Good night Tonito.” Mirabel carries the sleeping Antonio to bed, and dreams of what magical day is ahead. |
